From Root’s Class to Bumrah’s Chaos
Day 1 at Lord’s saw Joe Root craft a century filled with elegance and control. But on Day 2, the script flipped dramatically. Jasprit Bumrah stepped up with fire in his eyes — and Lord’s watched a spell of fast bowling that tilted the balance.

Bumrah’s Brilliance Turns the Tide
England resumed at 251/4, hoping to stretch their total. Bumrah had other ideas. He tore through the tail, removing Stokes, Root, Woakes, and Archer with clinical precision. His figures (5 for 74) didn’t just look good on the scoreboard, they shifted the momentum entirely.
It was his 15th five-wicket haul in Tests. But more than stats, it was the statement — India were back in the fight.

England’s Lower Order Resists
Despite Bumrah’s carnage, England found runs through Jamie Smith (51*) and Brydon Carse (56). Their 84-run stand for the 8th wicket frustrated India briefly and took England to a total of 387.
It was a solid score, but considering where they stood on Day 1, they might feel they left runs out there.
India’s Start: Cautious but Steady
India’s response was steady, if not spectacular. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early by a rejuvenated Jofra Archer. Shubman Gill (16) and Karun Nair (40) offered brief resistance, but both fell to loose shots.
At the close of play, India stood at 145/3, still trailing by 242 runs. KL Rahul anchored the innings with an unbeaten 53. Beside him, Rishabh Pant was unbeaten on 19, battling both English bowlers and a sore finger
Pant’s Fight, Archer’s Fire
Rishabh Pant’s decision to bat despite his injury earned admiration. England, meanwhile, welcomed back Jofra Archer, who bowled with venom and pace. His spell included Jaiswal’s wicket and constant menace under cloudy skies.
The duel between India’s batters and England’s pace battery is far from over.
Cautious on Ball-Change Conversations
When asked about the frequent ball replacements at Lord’s in the press conference, bumrah kept it neutral:
“I don’t really control that… I don’t want to say any controersial statements and get my match fees deducted… we were bowling with the ball we were given.”
What to Expect on Day 3?
India need to bat long. With Rahul and Pant set, and Ravindra Jadeja to come, the visitors will aim to close the deficit and possibly seize control.
England, on the other hand, will look for early wickets with the second new ball due soon.
One thing is certain: the Lord’s Test is alive and beautifully balanced.
