India’s Javelin Duo Hold Their Ground in Luzern, But Fall Short of Peak Form

At the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern 2025 meet, India’s javelin hopes Karishma Sanil and Sahil Silwal showed steady hands but couldn’t quite hit their personal peaks. Both athletes featured in the Final B groups of their respective events and secured top-five finishes, adding valuable international experience to their seasons, though their throws landed a few metres short of their career-best efforts.

Karishma Sanil finishes fifth in Women’s Final B
Competing in Final B, Karishma Sanil recorded a best throw of 53.93 metres, which placed her fifth in the group. She was up against throwers from Serbia, France, Germany, and Australia.

Karishma’s effort in Luzern was 1.62 metres short of her personal best of 55.55 metres, recorded earlier this year at the National Games in Dehradun.

Sahil Silwal places third in Men’s Final B
Sahil Silwal, competing in Men’s Final B, registered a best of 77.52 metres, securing third place. He held off close competition and finished behind athletes from Australia and France.

3. Sahil Silwal (India) – 77.52


Personal Best Comparison:
Sahil’s Luzern throw was 4.29 metres below his personal best of 81.81 metres, achieved at the Inter-State Nationals in June 2024.

Signs of consistency, but podium still out of reach
Both Indian throwers delivered competitive and consistent efforts, though they were unable to challenge for top podium spots. Their performances show promising depth in India’s javelin program, especially as attention shifts toward Olympic qualification and higher-tier international meets later this season.
