Kujur Leads Indian Sprint Charge in Luzern with Strong 10.28s

At the international athletics stage in Luzern, India’s 100m sprinters made a strong impression. Animesh Kujur, Gurindervir Singh, Manikanta Hoblidhar, D M Jayram, and Lalu Bhoi all competed in Final 3, holding their own against international competition.

Animesh Kujur celebrates after a strong finish, symbolising his growing stature in Indian sprinting.

This race wasn’t just participation, it was performance. A clear sign that India’s sprint scene is building confidence, quality, and international competitiveness.

Kujur Clocks 10.28, Just 0.10s Off His Personal Best
The standout was Animesh Kujur, who ran 10.28 seconds, finishing second in his race and just behind Sachin Dennis of Jamaica (10.21). While it wasn’t his personal best of 10.18, it was a smooth, high-quality effort under pressure.

Kujur’s gap from the overall fastest sprinter of the night was just 0.22s, as Nigeria’s Okon Israel Sunday ran 10.06 in Final 2.

That small margin highlights how close India’s top sprinter is to the global benchmark.

Indian Sprint Pack Holds Their Ground
India’s supporting quartet in the same final also delivered encouraging results:

Gurindervir Singh – 10.54s

Manikanta Hoblidhar – 10.61s

D M Jayram – 10.65s

Lalu Bhoi – 10.67s

While none of them broke personal records, their consistent performances in a competitive European field reflect growing maturity. The gap between India’s top and emerging sprinters is narrowing, a healthy sign for the national sprint pool.

Luzern Was a Milestone, Not Just a Meet
Having five Indian sprinters compete together in a top-tier European event and finish within competitive timing brackets, marks a shift. Indian athletes are no longer just chasing experience; they’re pushing timing boundaries.

From Kujur’s near-PB to the squad’s united effort, the Luzern meet reflects a sprint revolution that’s quietly picking up speed.
