Animesh Kujur made history by becoming the first Indian sprinter to compete in the U23 200m final at the prestigious Diamond League in Monaco. Facing some of the world’s fastest young athletes, Kujur finished fourth with a timing of 20.55 seconds, just 0.13 seconds shy of the podium.

His performance marks a new chapter for Indian athletics, proving that Indian sprinters can now hold their own on global tracks.
From National Records to International Recognition
Before his Diamond League debut, Kujur had already made headlines by smashing the 200m national record at the Asian Championships with a time of 20.32 seconds, earning a bronze medal despite battling illness.
He followed it up with a national record in the 100m, clocking 10.18 seconds at the Dromia International Sprint Meet in Greece—making him the first Indian to officially dip under 10.20.
