Diogo Jota, Liverpool and Portugal footballer died in a car accident in Spain.

Diogo Jota, 28, a Liverpool footballer, and his brother Andre Felipe, 26, who plays for the Portuguese football club Penafiel, were killed in a road accident in Zamora, Spain, early Thursday morning.  The information was corroborated by the Spanish civil guard.

Jota was on his way back to Liverpool for pre-season training, travelling by car and ferry since he underwent minor surgery and doctors recommended him not to fly.

Just eleven days before to the tragic accident, Jota wed his longtime companion, Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children.

In 182 games, he scored 65 goals for Liverpool, which helped them win the Premier League last season and the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022.

He was also part of Portugal’s team which won the UEFA Nations League last month.
