In a major setback for Indian athletics, national-level shot putter Jasmine Kaur has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after testing positive for a banned substance.

The suspension was confirmed after Jasmine’s A-sample collected during a recent athletics event returned adverse results.


Violation Details

According to official sources, Jasmine Kaur was found guilty under:

Article 2.1 – Presence of a prohibited substance

Article 2.2 – Use or attempted use of a prohibited substance

She now faces a temporary ban and potential disciplinary proceedings. The athlete has the right to request B-sample testing or challenge the findings at a hearing.

Who is Jasmine Kaur?
Jasmine is a rising shot put athlete from Punjab, known for consistent performances in national-level meets.
She was seen as a promising prospect for future Asian-level competitions, including the Asian Athletics Championships and SAF Games.

Official NADA Statement:

“The athlete has been notified and placed under provisional suspension as per Code. She has been advised of her rights under the National Anti-Doping Code, 2021.”

India’s Ongoing Doping Challenge
India has long struggled with doping incidents in track and field sports. Jasmine’s case comes just months after NADA emphasized stricter anti-doping measures ahead of the 2026 Asian Games buildup.

Last year alone, over 70 Indian athletes tested positive across various sports disciplines, highlighting a systemic issue that authorities are working hard to curb.

Next Steps

Jasmine Kaur remains provisionally suspended pending the result of her B-sample test.

If found guilty, she could face a ban of up to 4 years, depending on the substance involved and the circumstances of use.
