Another Blow Before the Comeback Could Begin
PV Sindhu’s tough season took another hit as she crashed out of the Japan Open 2025 in the opening round, losing 15-21, 14-21 to South Korea’s Y.J. Sim.

This defeat extends her string of early exits in recent months and casts a shadow over her readiness for upcoming international events.
The first game saw Sim dominate early. Sim’s aggressive left-to-right, right-to-left court coverage never allowed Sindhu to settle. The Indian shuttler was visibly confused by Sim’s rapid directional changes and failed to read the game plan early.
Misjudgements and Missed Smashes
One of Sindhu’s biggest problems was her line judgement. She left multiple shuttles thinking they would fall wide, only to watch them land inside, costing her crucial points.
Even when Sindhu started finding rhythm in the second half of the match, her signature smashes lacked control. Many went wide or failed to trouble the Korean. The aggression was there, but precision was missing.

A Tactical Exposure
Sim clearly came in with a plan. She target Sindhu’s defensive movement, especially wide shots on her left side. Time and again, deep cross-court smashes exposed a gap in Sindhu’s footwork.
Her recovery after each rally looked slower than usual, suggesting she’s still not fully back to her sharpest physical shape.
Raising concerns on form
This performance once again raises concerns about PV Sindhu’s current form and future trajectory. With the Olympic cycle reset and India eyeing dominance in world badminton, Sindhu’s form slump will be a major talking point.
A deeper introspection may now be required. From mental clarity to physical sharpness, the comeback is looking harder than ever.
