Winning in Portugal
Murali Sreeshankar clinched gold with a 7.75m jump at the Meeting Maia Cidade do Desporto in Portugal. The winning leap came in round two, marking a consistent performance despite less-than-ideal conditions.

Jump Sequence Confirmed
He began with 7.63m, followed by 7.75m, then 7.69m in round three. A foul came next, then 6.12m, and finally a 7.58m effort to close. The consistency was clear, even if not at peak level.
Not a Comeback, But Continued Momentum
This meet wasn’t his return from injury. Earlier in July, Sreeshankar had already made a major statement with an 8.05m jump at the Indian Open Athletics Meet in Pune. That performance was the best by an Indian in 2025 so far.
A Steady Season After Setbacks
Though he missed the Paris Olympics due to a knee injury earlier this year, Sreeshankar is actively competing again. His current form suggests he’s aiming to rebuild gradually and return to the world stage.

From National Leader to International Podiums
His personal best remains 8.41m (2022). While the 7.75m in Portugal isn’t among the world’s elite marks, it adds to a solid 2025 campaign. More importantly, it keeps him competitive as he eyes major meets ahead.
Signs of Form Returning
Saturday’s gold wasn’t just a win, it showed his physical readiness and technical rhythm. With more events coming up, the Indian long jumper seems back in the mix and improving with every jump.
